Caltrain to Rebuild Rail Crossings in San Bruno

Caltrain construction crews will reconstruct the railroad grade crossing at Angus Avenue in San Bruno working around the clock over two weekends: 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, through 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29 and again from 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, through 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5. This project will allow for track maintenance and safety improvements at the Angus Avenue grade crossing.

During the weekend construction, Angus Avenue will be closed at the railroad tracks between First Avenue and Huntington Avenue. Motorists and pedestrians can detour around the closure by using San Bruno Avenue, two blocks north of Angus Avenue.

During the first weekend of work, crews will replace the existing worn asphalt, rails, ties and ballast on the northbound track and also will improve drainage. Southbound track improvements will be done during the second weekend of construction. New paving will be completed adjacent to the tracks creating a smooth vehicular crossing surface.

During construction, trains through the project area will operate on a single track in both directions. As a result, passengers for northbound and southbound trains at the San Bruno station will board from the same platform. Announcements about this will be made on board trains and at stations.

Neighbors may hear construction noise from backup alarms on equipment, as well as from heavy machinery. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, will be used for night work as well, with the lights focused on the tracks to illuminate the work area. Crews will work as quickly and as quietly as possible to limit any impact to neighbors near the construction area.

Weekend rail service will not be interrupted. To download a larger map and detour plan for the project area, click HERE.
