Experienced Transit Professional Joins Caltrain Board
Nathaniel P. Ford, executive director/CEO for the San Francisco
Municipal Transportation Agency, was sworn in as a member
of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board at its March meeting.
Ford, a seasoned transit executive, served as the general
manager of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, took
over the leadership at MTA in January 2006. He replaces
Stuart Sunshine, who was MTA’s acting executive director/CEO.
“Caltrain and San Francisco have a long history together,”
said Ford. “It is my goal to make sure that history continues,
and that this board works together to provide the best possible
rail service to our Bay Area community.”
Caltrain’s rail service dates back more than 140 years and serves
more than 30,000 commuters each weekday, along its 77-mile rail
corridor, between San Francisco and Gilroy.
“I look forward to working with Nat,” said Board Chair Ken Yeager. “He
brings a wealth of transit experience, and I believe he will be a great
asset to this board and its efforts to continue the success of Caltrain.”
The Caltrain board has nine members, with representatives from each of the three
counties through which the rail service operates – San Francisco, San Mateo and
Santa Clara. The Caltrain board meets the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m.
at 1250 San Carlos Ave., in San Carlos, two blocks from the train station.
