Caltrain To Begin Work On San Mateo Bridges
At the end of January, construction crews will begin
upgrades on four Caltrain bridges in San Mateo.
The crews will install “crash beams,” to help prevent
damage to the railroad tracks if the bridge is hit
by a vehicle.
The bridges cross Tilton, Poplar, Mt. Diablo and
Santa Inez avenues. Construction will cause periodic
lane closures, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic
will be diverted.
The bridges, built at the turn of the century, no
longer meet clearance specifications.
Before the 53-foot steel beams can be installed,
workers will build supports to hold the beams in
place. Neighbors may hear construction noise,
which will involve chipping and drilling holes in
the concrete and installing reinforcement. The
work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,
Monday to Friday, for approximately four weeks.
The beams will not be set in place until summer.
Neighbors in the area who have questions about the
construction may call the Caltrain Customer Service
Center at 1.800.660.4287.
