Caltrain to Kick Off Next Phase of CEMOF Work
Beginning this week, Caltrain is kicking off the construction of a maintenance shop
and yard in San Jose where it is constructing an equipment, maintenance and operations
facility known as “CEMOF.”
This is the fourth of five projects in the facility’s construction, which is expected
wrap up in late 2006.
Businesses and residents in the area may notice an increase in materials and equipment
deliveries to the site, which is a former Southern Pacific railyard. Trucks making
these deliveries will be traveling an approved route along Stockton Avenue and Taylor
Street. All construction crew parking will be done on site.
Over the next few weeks, workers will begin grading the CEMOF site in preparation for
the track bed and building foundations. This work could release an odor caused by
diesel in the soil. On-site air monitoring will be conducted to ensure that operations
have no impact on the community.
