Hillsdale Station Undergoing Weekend Work June 24-26

Crews will be working this weekend to reconstruct the northbound track structure at the Hillsdale Caltrain Station, and all trains through the area will operate on a single track while construction is under way.

The work, which will begin at 9 p.m. Friday, will continue around-the-clock all weekend. The northbound track may be out of service through Monday morning, June 27.

Consequently, passengers at both the Hillsdale and Hayward Park stations will board both north- and southbound trains on the normal southbound track until the work is over.

Caltrain does not anticipate significant train delays as a result of the work, but neighbors who live close to the Hillsdale station, east of El Camino Real, may hear some construction noise, mostly from back-up horns on trucks. Other impacts are expected to be minimal.

This weekend’s work is part of a $4.2 million project to improve safety and passenger amenities at the Hillsdale station, which is one of Caltrain’s heavily used “Baby Bullet” stations. Parking will be added to the east and west sides of the station, increasing the number of spaces by 150.

A new platform will be built on the east side of the station and the southbound platform will be extended north, later this summer. As a resultof the project, the existing center platform will be eliminated and a center-track fence will be installed, along with pedestrian gates, warning lights and bells at the north and south ends of the station.

The construction began in May and is expected to last through the end of the year. Once construction is complete, the Bay Meadows stop, which is used primarily during horseracing season, will close.
