Caltrain Ready to Roll for 2005 Baseball Season

Caltrain is on track for the San Francisco Giants 2005 baseball season starting March 31, delivering fans close enough to SBC Park to “get a walk” to home plate.

Caltrain’s San Francisco terminal at 4th and King streets is just a block away from the waterfront ball park; Muni’s N-Judah street car line across the street from the Caltrain station also is an option.

On weekday and weekend games starting at 12:35 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., Caltrain will supplement its regular northbound schedule with two special “baseball trains.”

For week night games, including the 7:15 p.m. March 31 exhibition game against the Oakland Athletics, Caltrain’s regular service from San Jose, which includes two Baby Bullet trains, provides abundant options.

Post-game, Caltrain operates two special trains after evening and weekend games, and one express train following 12:35 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. weekday games.

For night and weekend games, one express train departs 15 minutes after the last out or when full, running non-stop to San Carlos, then making all regular stops to the San Jose Diridon station. The extra local train departs 25 minutes after the game, making all stops to the Diridon station. The same is true on nights with fireworks shows, when the special train waits for the end of the show.

On weekends, the last stop is at the Diridon station, but a shuttle bus takes passengers to the Tamien station for most regularly scheduled trains.

Caltrain also adds capacity on its regular trains for baseball, as needed.

Information about Caltrain baseball service is available in a new brochure, which is onboard trains and at staffed stations. Riders also can request a copy by calling Caltrain’s Customer Service Center.

Caltrain is a Proof-of-Payment system, requiring all passengers to have valid fare media before boarding the train. Caltrain sells tickets through machines at all stations, with the exception of Paul Avenue and College Park.

Passengers may purchase One-way, Day Pass, or 10-ride Tickets. The 10-ride Ticket is a great bargain for families and groups of friends heading to the ballpark because one ticket may be used by all members of the traveling party, providing they don't exceed the 10-ride limit.

Passengers are required to validate all 10-ride tickets before boarding. If a validator is not working, 10-ride Ticket holders should immediately locate a conductor upon boarding the train.

Monthly Pass holders ride free through all zones on weekends.
