Caltrain Fares To Change January 1, 2006

Caltrain will implement a 5.6 percent increase to its base fare on Jan. 1. The base fare for a one-way ticket will increase by 25 cents. Zone charges will not go up.

This is the second of a two-phased fare increase which was approved by the Caltrain policy board last spring to address the railroad’s significant budget shortfall, which has been further exacerbated by higher fuel costs.

The 5.6 percent increase is expected to raise $600,000 during the remaining six months in the current fiscal year, or $1.2 million annually.

The increase will be reflected in the price of all tickets except the Senior/Disabled/Youth one-way fare, which remains unchanged.

Caltrain shortly will issue a new schedule with the updated fares. Train times will not change. For information, call 1.800.660.4287 (TTY only 650.508.6448).
