Caltrain To Upgrade San Jose Bridges

On Monday, Dec. 19, Caltrain construction crews will begin upgrades on four rail bridges in San Jose to meet seismic safety standards. The bridges cross Willow Street, Bird Avenue, Park Avenue and Taylor Street.

Traffic in the area will be diverted around the construction from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Construction will begin at Willow Street and proceed north along the rail line. Each bridge will take about three weeks to complete and the entire project is scheduled for completion in mid-April.

Crews will be reinforcing existing bridge supports with concrete. Instead of using traditional poured concrete, the contractor will be using shotcrete, concrete that is “shot” into forms under pressure. Shotcrete is faster to install, reducing the construction window and minimizing the inconvenience to the neighborhood.

For questions about this project call the Caltrain customer service center at 1.800.660.4287 (TTY – 650.508.6448).
