UP may delay South Bay trains

The Union Pacific Railroad will be replacing railroad ties on its track between the Tamien and Santa Clara stations. The UP track lies to the east of the Caltrain tracks. However, the extensive work and safety requirements will require Caltrain to operate no faster than 25 miles per hour when the tie gang is on site, resulting in about a four-minute delay.

The UP crew will be working in various locations between Tamien and Santa Clara from 6 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. until late December. Because of how the UP assigns its maintenance work, there will be some days when no work is occurring.

There also will be a number of days when the Capitol Corridor and ACE trains will not be serving the San Jose station.

Caltrain regrets any delay that you may experience.
