Caltrain Holiday Train Set For Fifth Annual Toy Drive Dec. 3 & 4
For the fifth year in a row, Caltrain is joining forces with the Golden Gate Railroad Museum
to bring Santa and his friends to town aboard the spectacular Trains for Tots Special.
Decorated with more than 40,000 lights, this supersized toy train will visit nine stations over
two nights, Dec. 3 and 4. Thousands of visitors throng to train stations every year to enjoy
a show featuring music of the season, as well as a chance to see the North Pole’s royal couple
and their entire entourage.
People can sing along as a Salvation Army brass band on board both nights plays carols during
the station stops, joined by the employee choir, the Cisco Singers, on Saturday and the
Peninsula Harmony Chorus on Sunday.
The special train is literally a vehicle to generate toy donations for the U.S. Marine Corps
Reserve’s Toys for Tots Program and the Salvation Army, and helps them kick off their holiday
toy drives.
Last year, more than 6,000 toys were dropped in the toy donation barrels, and people are
encouraged to join in the spirit of the season by bringing a new, unwrapped toy.
The event is free. The special train will stop at each station for a 20-minute show,
and additional pre-arrival entertainment is planned at several stations.
Trains for Tots is made possible with sponsorship support from Parsons, DRB Partners,
Rail Journeys West, KFRC, Peterson Power Systems and Debbie Lyn’s Costumes, with special
support from the Port of Redwood City.
