Caltrain Holds Public Meetings on Transit Plan
Caltrain will host three public meetings to discuss its Short-Range Transit Plan.
The SRTP is used as a management and policy document to help Caltrain plan for future
capital and operations expenditures and to help coordinate with regional and federal
policy.
The meetings will be held:
Tuesday, Sept. 28, 6:30 p.m.
Santa Clara Caltrain Station
South Bay Historical Railroad Society Board Room
1005 Railroad Ave.
Santa Clara
Tuesday, Sept 28, 6:30 p.m.
San Francisco County Transportation Authority, Conference Room
100 Van Ness Ave., 25th Floor
San Francisco
Thursday, Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m.
Caltrain Administrative Building
1250 San Carlos Ave.
San Carlos
The SRTP is based on Caltrain’s 20-year Strategic Plan, which was approved by
Caltrain’s Board of Directors in July 2004. The SRTP covers the agency’s
accomplishments over the last decade, the projects currently underway to improve
service and infrastructure, and new projects geared towards meeting future market
demand.
Future goals include:
- Acting as a major catalyst for redevelopment and economic activity in
communities along the rail corridor.
- Playing a key role in mobility management along the Peninsula Corridor and
throughout the Bay Area.
- Expanding service to 138 daily trains through a series of projects that includes
electrification, addition of Dumbarton rail corridor service, total grade separation
with four tracks and extending the service to Salinas and Monterey.
Caltrain recognizes that this is an ambitious list of projects, particularly in the
current economic climate, and is looking toward the possible reauthorization of San
Mateo County’s Measure A sales tax, a proposed increase in Santa Clara County’s
transit tax, the passage of a statewide High Speed Rail bond and future regional,
state and federal funds as resources that will determine the extent to which we are
able to meet our 20-year goals.
Comments will be accepted at the public meetings or until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6
by calling 1.800.660.4287 (for hearing-impaired 650.508.6448). Written comments may
