Caltrain Kicks Off Baby Bullet Service with Senator Speier

What:

Caltrain will hold a "baby announcement" ceremony to welcome its much-anticipated Baby Bullet express service. After the brief speeches, dignitaries and others in attendance will board a Baby Bullet for an express ride to Millbrae and back.

When:

Friday, June 4, at 2 p.m.
(Entertainment begins at 1:15 p.m.)

Who:

Senator Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) will be joined by Caltrain Chair John McLemore and Metropolitan Transportation Commission Executive Director Steve Heminger. Caltrain Vice Chair and San Mateo County Supervisor Mike Nevin will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Where:

San Francisco Caltrain Station
700 Fourth Street, at King Street

Why:

Caltrain's Baby Bullet express service will zip passengers between San Jose and San Francisco in 57 minutes, a savings of 39-minutes compared to travel via a local train. Senator Speier, who had been looking for a project that could provide congestion relief, secured $127 million through the state's Traffic Congestion Relief Program four years ago to build Caltrain passing tracks and purchase six aerodynamic locomotives and 17 low-floor passenger cars.
