Special Caltrain Service for Fourth of July

Caltrain will operate on a Sunday schedule on the Fourth of July but extra trains will be added to accommodate people returning from the fireworks show in San Francisco.

On Independence Day, in addition to the regular 30 trains operating on Sundays, three southbound trains will be provided for post-fireworks crowds, departing the San Francisco station at 11 p.m., 11:30 p.m. and midnight.

The San Francisco Municipal Railway will run shuttles between Caltrain's terminal at Fourth and King streets and Pier 39. The last southbound Caltrain should depart San Francisco at midnight, though it could be delayed based on traffic conditions for the Muni shuttles.

Caltrain also will add cars to accommodate the holiday riders.

Trains will make all regular local stops on Sunday between San Francisco and the San Jose Diridon station, and a shuttle bus makes the connection between Diridon and the Tamien station for most trains.

A special holiday schedule (PDF, 27.9 KB) will be in effect on Monday, July 5, which includes the usual hourly service offered on Sundays plus limited service to Gilroy: Trains 421 and 423 will operate in the morning and Trains 438 and 440 in the evening.

Also on Monday, July 5, Caltrain will operate a Sunday modified schedule for Giants fans wanting to get to the 1:05 p.m. game against the Colorado Rockies.

This is the first weekend that Caltrain will be carrying riders over the Fourth of July weekend since rail service was suspended for construction in 2002. Since then, hourly frequency has been added during most of the day on Sundays, and Caltrain has become a Proof-of-Payment system.

Passengers are reminded that they must have valid tickets before boarding the train. Tickets can be purchased at vending machines at nearly all stations or at staffed stations.

A Day Pass allows for unlimited rides between zones all day. Families or other groups can save money by using a 10-ride Ticket, but the ticket must be validated at station validators before boarding. Monthly Pass holders ride free through all zones on weekends.
