Caltrain Adding Service for New Year's Eve Revelers
Caltrain will operate on a reduced schedule on Christmas and New Year's days but
will add service for night owls who plan to ring in the new year in San Francisco and
football fans headed to the Diamond Walnut Bowl.
A holiday schedule will be in effect on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and on New Year's Day,
Jan. 1, with 20 trains operating between San Francisco and San Jose.
A regular schedule will be in effect on Christmas Eve, but on New Year's Eve,
Caltrain will add three special northbound trains into San Francisco to the regular
schedule. The trains will depart the San Jose Diridon Station at 4:45 p.m., 7:35 p.m.
and 8:15 p.m., making all regular local stops and arriving in San Francisco
approximately 90 minutes later.
Caltrain's augmented service offers a safe and convenient option for traditional New
Year's celebrations, as well as for people headed to Pacific Bell Park for the 7:30
p.m. Diamond Walnut Bowl.
Those who want to stay to watch the fireworks show near the Ferry Building also will
have several options for getting home after midnight.
What's more, after 11 p.m., Caltrain service will be free. This
will include Train 98, which departs San Francisco at 12:07 a.m., as well as all
three special service trains, which will leave The City after midnight, when full.
The special trains will make all regular local stops. The last special New Year's
Eve train will depart San Francisco at 1:45 a.m.
