Holiday Travelers Have New Reason to be Thankful

Holiday air travelers have many public transit options for a fast and convenient getaway from the San Francisco Bay Area over the Thanksgiving holiday on BART, Caltrain and SamTrans.

San Francisco Airport

Passengers from the East Bay or north of the airport can take BART to San Francisco International Airport's International Terminal, where they can disembark or transfer to the airport's light rail system to get to other terminals.

Weekday travelers from the south can take Caltrain to the Millbrae Intermodal Station and transfer to a BART train that goes to and from the airport. Caltrain offers luggage space on board its trains.

On weekends, Caltrain is not operating rail service because of the CTX construction project, but alternative RRX bus service connects with BART at the Millbrae station.

SamTrans provides service from the Peninsula and San Francisco to the airport on three routes: 292 (San Mateo to San Francisco), KX (Palo Alto to San Francisco) and 397 (San Francisco to Palo Alto).

All buses are wheelchair-accessible. SamTrans buses stop at Courtyard A (the first international stop and Terminal1), Terminals 2 and 3, and at Courtyard G (the last international stop and BART).

Route KX is unable to carry passengers with luggage between San Francisco and the airport. Passengers departing or returning on a weekend can use Route 292 to connect with Caltrain's Route RRX, both of which serve the Hillsdale Caltrain Station in San Mateo.

San Jose Airport

For passengers heading to San Jose International Airport, Caltrain connects with the Valley Transportation Authority's free Airport Flyer bus at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station during the week.
