Transit District Hosts Booth at Car Free Day in S.F.

The San Mateo County Transit District will participate in San Francisco's Car Free Day event on Montgomery Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.

The transit district will have an informational booth at the event's transportation fair, offering details on Caltrain and SamTrans services.

San Francisco is hosting its first Car Free Day by closing Montgomery Street to traffic between California and Market streets. The event has its origins in Europe's Car Free Week, a series of events meant to discourage automobile use and educate the public about alternative means of transportation.

San Francisco Supervisor and Caltrain board member Sophie Maxwell is leading the movement to bring car free events to the Bay Area.

For more information on Car Free Day, please contact Sarah He in Supervisor Maxwell's office at (415) 554-7670.

For fare and schedule information, contact the transit district Customer Service Center at 1-800-660-4287 (or TDD only 650-508-6448).
