This summer, Caltrain is kicking off North CTX
construction, the largest track improvement project in the rail agency’s
history. CTX construction will shutdown the
railroad on weekends for approximately two years, with alternate
service being provided by buses.
The project will result in a modernized centralized
traffic control system, passing tracks in three areas along the rail
corridor and improved safety and travel for Caltrain’s passengers.
When construction is completed, Caltrain will offer Baby Bullet express
service between San Francisco and San Jose.
Caltrain will offer bus service in lieu of weekend
train service. The links below provide details on the bus service,
designated as Route RRX. The route will serve the San Francisco,
Millbrae, Hillsdale, Palo Alto and San Jose stations.
Saturdays - Northbound
Saturdays - Southbound
Sundays - Northbound
Sundays - Southbound
Trains will operate on non-weekend holidays, i.e.
Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.
Special baseball bus service also will be offered for fans traveling to Giants’ home games at Pacific Bell Park.
ALTERNATE SERVICES
For travel between the San Jose and Palo Alto
stations, Route RRX passengers may use Valley Transportation Authority Route 22. For travel along the Peninsula and into San
Francisco riders may use SamTrans Routes 390,
391 or KX. Timetables for both SamTrans and VTA services are available on RRX buses or by contacting
Caltrain at 1.800.660.4287.
REMINDERS
RRX buses can accommodate two bicycles on the front and up to two bicycles onboard depending on available space.
Eating and drinking is not allowed on Route RRX.
The last buses will depart the San Jose Diridon and
San Francisco stations at 8 p.m. We recognize that Caltrain usually runs
later on weekends, but due to limited resources service hours cannot be
extended to match the regular weekend train schedule.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during
this temporary inconvenience while Caltrain is on its way to permanent
improvement.
